Small Computer Desk Options For Your Limited Space

Small Computer Desk

Many people have limited space when it comes to a study area or home office. Getting a small computer desk that has all the features needed and will fit into the space available is the solution. There are many to choose from, however, small is a relative term. One person may consider a laptop lap desk small while another would consider anything less than a full credenza small. By knowing where you want to put your computer desk and the measurements of that space prior to shopping, you can save yourself time and headaches.

Sauder Furniture offers a variety of small desks designed to be used with computers. Again, small is relative and these desks range in width starting at 38” and pricing beginning at $76.99. You can find a variety of features including hiding keyboard trays, CPU shelves, built in filling, printer shelves, cable management and a small hutch. One of the best values for students is the Beginnings corner computer desk that is only 47” at its widest point, has raised monitor platform and CD storage, and lists at $108.99.

Ikea, long known for its space efficient designs, has a large selection of small desks to choose from. The Fredrik for $119 is a 3 tier workstation that is 39W x 25D x 59H, has 3 color choices of black/silver, birch/silver or white, comes with cable management and the work surface can be mounted a different heights. The top two shelves act as a hutch but they are open backed. An optional keyboard tray may also be installed. The Ludvig Laptop Shelf/Charging Station is made to attach to your wall. Very simple in design, this is a basic work surface that has storage for your power supply, is made of metal and costs $69.99. There are 2 other style in the Ludvig line, both of which are wall mount, that allows you to hide your laptop behind doors that become work surfaces. The last model by Ikea that we would classify as a small computer desk is the Mikael. It sits on casters which allow mobility. At just over 31” wide, this is one of the smallest computer desks available. It comes in five different colors, including blue/white and red/white for children's rooms, and is a bargain at $49.99.

Hon has manufactured business furniture for decades. Much of Hon's product is modular and has a cubicle feel to it. You will also find modern executive desks featured if you visit their website. Still, they do have some smaller computer desks that would be useful in the home. If you are looking for a basic and nearly indestructible workstation, then the Hon AM3036MML is the perfect choice. It is adjustable in height by 1 inch increments and has the grade of laminate you find in schools, designed to last for years. The surface is 36W x 30D x 1 1/8 thick. This desk retails for $402.
